Okay so the madness started with this question:

Got confused pages aftr pages of discussion but instead of getting the doubt cleared I just got more confused.Fianlly got this:

It says that 'THAT" could be followed by sing or plural.
it depends on the context.
it can modify either one or the substances
Please note that "not always modify immediate preceding noun

Now I am really confused about the function of "that" guys..please help
