In this question,

the car needs 1 gallon every 30 miles if it runs at 50 m/hr.
car travels for 5 hrs at 50m/hr.
Distance = 50*5 = 250
gasoline needed = 250/30 = 25/3 gallons.
He had a full tank of 12 gallons.
Fraction used = (25/3)/12 = 25/36
