My Response:-
It is true that the aim of any university is to teach the students. Author has used this as a premise to conclude that students should evaluate the professor and a professor's pay and commission should be based on this evaluation. I do not agree with the author.
While it is true that the students are the best judge of how a professor teach a course. Thus in this case the students can be considered as consumers.But a provider and a consumer relationship will not hold true for this case.
The students might not be the best judge to evaluate the professor. Some students might give good evaluation to professor which give them good marks or no assignment. Thus, even though a professor is teaching not so good will get good evaluation.
Also, a professor might not be able to perform his duty properly if he knows that he is going to be evaluated by the students. For example, when a student doesn't attend a class regularly, he needs to be taken to task. But under the present condition a professor might treat the student linieantly, thinking that a punishment might do harm to his promotion. This will adversely affect the progress of a student.
However, while evaluating a professor a certain percentage can be given to the students evaluation. This will make sure professor can perform his duty and take necessary action on the students without thinking about the evaluation from the students.
In conclusion, a professor evaluation should not be based totally on feed back from the students.
