Question Stem:

"Location has traditionally been one of the most important determinants of a business's success. The importance of location is not likely to change, no matter how advanced the development of computer communications and others kinds of technology becomes."

My response:

Some people believe that one of the reasons a business is successful is because of its location and others believe that no matter where a business is located that it will thrive. I agree with the idea that a business can thrive in a good location.

First, the San Francisco Bay area has a lot of great universities where a business can attain a great deal of intellectual talent. In order to compete in today's economy, a business must be able to hire from the nation's top schools (Stanford, Santa Clara, and UC Berkley etc). With such close proximity to these schools, a business can pick a great pool of new graduates to enter its new college graduate program.

Second, when a business is in an area where the computer industry started - "Silicon Valley" - it stays current with the latest technology. Such an advantage of being in this location will help a business immensely compete with local and international companies.

Finally, as we all know a good location for a gas station should have an easy drive in entrance as well as an easy exit for customers. This will eventually alleviate long gas lines. The convenience of driving in and out of a gas station with no difficulties should be one of the reasons why a gas station is at that location.

Hence, a great location is very important in today's business world. A business that has access to university graduates and be in the middle of "Silicon Valley" will greatly enhance its outlook.
