Diversity question

by tzink » Fri Jul 11, 2008 9:18 am
I must preface this question by stating that I do not mean this to be offensive to anyone, and I hope it is not taken that way.

I have read a lot in the last few years about equal opportunity, diversity, and at the extreme, reverse discrimination. In fact, I experienced some when applying to undergrad in 2003.

I have yet to take the GMAT, but I have a strong GPA and resume.
The thing is, I'm a Caucasian male.

Will this information negatively affect me when applying to b-school?
Should I leave this information out of my application packet? (it's optional, I believe)

Again, don't intend this as offensive at all. Diversity is wonderful.

Dear tzink,

Fortunately, business school admissions is different from undergraduate admissions--the focus becomes more about you, your goals, your motivation, and your professional track record. Being a caucasian male is not a negative and does not "hurt" you in the admission process. Whether or not you choose to disclose your race/ethnicity is your choice. In the global MBA applicant pool, caucasian males do make up a larger percentage than other groups so it is important to find a way to distinguish yourself in the application. Put together a strong, overall package and you will do fine.

Good luck,
Lisa
