Please evaluate my profile

by SK22 » Fri Jan 14, 2011 2:28 pm
Greetings!!

Nationality : Indian

Work experience : 5 years in IT, Software development and business analyst roles.
GMAT score : 1st attend : 420 (will address this below), second attempt : 720 (Q:49 V:40)
GPA: 3.78

I am planning to apply for the 2012 intake.

My only concern now is -
3 years back after I booked my gmat, I couldnt find time to prepare, as I had lots of work at office, and I dropped the idea
of doing the mba that time.
I also came to know that I needed more work exp to get into the top schools

But Instead of cancelling the test I wanted to appear for it (which i did), during the test, I took my own time and I didnt complete the verbal part as I wasnt prepared. I didnt know the seriousnous of it.

Will this be a issue, when I apply with my 720 score ? do you think I can give such a reason for this bad score ?
Please comment on this .

Thanks.

Hello,

Most schools will look only at the latest GMAT score. Your 720 is solid. If they ask about the earlier score, simply tell them what you have told me. Don't make a lot of excuses. Keep it short and don't blame work. Simply say you made a mistake, one that you corrected when it came time to take the test again.

I am sure you recognize that there are thousands of IT specialists with exceptional scores applying to all the top schools. You will have to work hard on your essays to show leadership and dedication and make yourself stand out from the other candidates. You may want to consider using an admissions consultant to help you put together the best possible story based on your skills, experience and goals.

Good luck,
Tani Wolff
