profile evaluation please

by ua87 » Mon Oct 04, 2010 6:02 am
Hi,

I graduated from UPenn engineering with a 3.6. I have a 730 Gmat (51Q and I guess 36V)

I have been working for exactly 15 months in a boutique M&A consultancy firm in Turkey. I am one of the 3 analyst so I have quite lot of responsibilities and I have been working in almost 10-12 projects so far.
During undergrad I played intramural soccer for 4 years, I was one of the founders and event manager of Turkish Undergraduate Student Ass. (although this was in my senior year so we could not achieve much)

Post undergrad: have been volunteering in a state college helping student write college essays etc.
volunteered in a Zoo (largest in zoo in Turkey) creating its business plan etc.
have been playing soccer for 2 years in an amateur soccer league with 50 teams on a weekly basis

Post MBA. I will first planning on working in a PE in USA with a focus in emerging markets and especially Turkey.. In the long run aiming to establish my own PE in Turkey

I am going to get two recommendations from my directors (also they are the partners of the company) and I might get a recom. from a client with whom I worked extensively

I am going to apply in Second round to
Harvard
Columbia
Wharton
Stanford
NYU
Chicago

I might add Yale, MIT and Northwestern depending on time constraints.

My concerns are that
- I have less work exp. than usual
- Dont have many undergrad / post undergrad. extra curricular activities ( I am not sure if intermural soccer counts as one)
- Dont have any awards ( can I count Deans list as one) or HKN (engineering honor society where I was a member in my senior year)

What are your recommendations / comments etc. How do you see my chances at these schools?

Can you give some info about your consultancy services. Since I am located in Turkey how can I work with you guys

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Thanks for your post. You certainly have a strength in your academics. Your solid undergraduate performance combined with your GMAT score certainly put you on par with the schools on your list. My only concern about your profile is the reason you are seeking an MBA at this point in your career. Your experience, while impressive, is quite limited as compared to the average bschool applicant. You'll want to be explicit in your career goals essay as to why now is truly the best time for you to seek an MBA. You may wish to hold off applying until next year or if you are indeed set on matriculating next year, you may want to add some top 15 schools to your list. By diversifying your list you increase your chances of successful admission.

Please send your resume to [email protected] for a free detailed assessment and to learn more about our services. We have consultants based in Europe who can work with your schedule/timezone.

Best,
