I need serious help!

by Brand-New-2010 » Sat Oct 16, 2010 8:53 am
Hello everyone ..
I have a bachelor degree in pharmacy from Egypt (2010) & I want to do MBA in UK
my Questions are:
1. what are the job opportunities for me after completion of MBA ?? Are they wide enough to include working in a bank for example .. OR I would only be concerned with my pharmaceutical background !

2. Is it true that MBA is ideal for changing careers?

3. If I'm doing the postgraduate diploma in management (DMS) & then MBA (top up) with no work experience .. Would that affect my job opportunity after completion of MBA ?

Thanks in advance .. I really need to get those questions answered so I can move on to the next step ..

Hello,

Many people use the MBA as a means to change careers. However, you will need to have clear career goals and educational needs in mind and incorporate those into your essays. Schools are not interested in people who are merely trying to escape a career that is not satisfying and will be very skeptical unless you can tell them what you want to do, how that fits with your background and abilities and why you believe you will like and be a success in the new field.

You will find it very difficult to get into a top level school without work experience. This is not arbitrary. The MBA classroom relies heavily on the experience and expertise of the students to enhance the education of all students. If you do not have work experience from which to contribute, you will lower the learning level for the entire class. Also, schools want to know that you have the ability to work well in a business environment. Good grades in school are not an indication of success on the job. Without job experience to evaluate, the school has no way to assess your professional potential. That makes you a risk. The schools will wisely choose someone who has more to contribute and who has shown the ability to thrive in business.

You would also find it more difficult to land a top job at graduation with no record of work experience.

Good luck,
Tani Wolff

Hey Brandnew, how're you? I'm from Egypt too btw. Can I ask you what's your goal after doing a MBA?
Because if your goal is to work in a bank, a MBA isn't necessary to achieve that. You can start looking for a job with your current degree now. Perhaps you can look in pharmaceutical companies first like Pfizer, AstraZeneca...etc and you can also apply for banks or marketing jobs if you want to. But trust me, doing a MBA right after graduation, without work experience, will not add value to you.
Get some work experience first, then do a MBA to promote yourself in the career you choose.
Good luck

Hey N:Dure
I'm fine thanks .. & you ?
Well .. Getting a job at AstraZeneca or Pfizer isn't the easy .. trust me , I've tried ..
I want to do something different .. I'm not into pharamcy that much .. I want to do something releated to accounting, business, finance ... etc
I'm doing nothing right now .. & this is why I'm thinking about taking a course instead of doing nothing .. so I was adviced to do an MBA if i'm into that field plus it has many other advangates..

After some real disappointing comments about an MBA with no work experience .. I'm thinking about MSc in management .. I guess it would be somehow better for a beginner & it doesn't require work experience

This is the story of my life .. What do you think now ?
P.S: I don't really want to work in Egypt because my siblings live in UK & I like it there .. so I just need to find the right course that can find me a decent job overthere
let me know what you think

Thanks :)

Try looking for an entry level training job. That would give you exposure to several facets of business so that you would have clearer goals before you apply to graduate school. Lots of companies have training programs that cycle new hires through different departments to give htem an overview of the business.

Graduate school is not a solution for not finding a job. Admissions committees do not want people who are hiding form a poor economic situation for two years. If you want them to believe in your dedication to a business career you have to show them by putting in the time to learn about a business and show that you can deliver results for your employer.
