how does a low GMAT score matter

by sonusinghal » Wed Jul 22, 2009 9:05 am
I scored a 620 (M:44 V: 33 ) today in my first attempt at GMAT . I would like to know what my chances are of making it to any of the top 50 colleges in the world . I have 3 years of work Experience as a senior Software Engineer.

Also where can I find a website that shows the colleges based on the average GMAT score .

Kindly help .

Thanks

Dear sonusinghal,

Most rankings, like BusinessWeek or US News or Financial Times, have charts showing statistics on all the ranked programs including average GMAT score. These charts are normally posted on their respective websites. You can also search programs on mba.com for all kinds of information and statistics.

Admissions is based on more than numbers like GMAT, GPA, and number of years experience. It is possible you can gain admission to a top 50, but it will require research on your part to identify the school(s) that are the best match for you and where your GMAT/GPA fall within range. Since you have only taken the GMAT once, you might want to take it again to try and increase your score--even a 20 point increase will strengthen your application.

Good luck,
Lisa
