Regarding Current Unemployment

by divyag25 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 1:58 pm
Hi,

I was employed till June this year after which I moved to the States to join my husband. I am unemployed right now though I am actively searching for jobs and also am planning to apply for B Schools for Fall 2011. How do I address this issue in my essays. Can I use the optional essay for this.

I am using my free time for pursuing some hobbies like cooking and music by myself. Since I am new to the place , I have been exploring the place in my free times.

Other than this I believe I have a strong profile. I have a GMAT score of 740 with really good acads(3.9 GPA) and a 3 year work experience with one of the leading semiconductor companies in India.

Hi,

Thanks for your post. While it is certainly understandable that you would be unemployed for a period of time due to your move, you will be required to address the issue in your applications. Most business school applications specifically ask you to address employment gaps longer than 2-3 months in the employment section of the data forms. You will want to demonstrate that you are actively seeking employment and that you are indeed putting to good use all the time you have on your hands while unemployed. Becoming involved in service organizations or other activities that relate to your goals is a great way to do this.

Best,

Stacey
