Reapplicant Essays

by shorttheworld » Thu Sep 08, 2011 9:10 am
Is it typical for your reapplication essay to feel a bit more naked than your previous year's "essay 1"? When you have 750 words and a big chunk of the essay is to focus on how youve improved over the past year(assuming youve done a good deal), youre left maybe 500 words and . Should I be worried that my other content feels a bit more naked than the previous year or is this the only logical example since your improvements take up such a large chunk of the essay? Thanks

Not at all! Hopefully you have lots and lots of excellent items that have improved, and that you are struggling to get them all in the essay. The strongest thing that works as a reapplicant is to show improvement and advancement and LOTS of it.

Hi shorttheworld,

In addition to improvements in your profile, what you can also focus on is how you've made decisions in the past year that bring you closer to your goals.

Also to build off the other suggestions you can discuss how you have learned about the target school even more and how this extra understanding reveals X, Y, Z about how the school can help you. If you have refined your goals you can mention this also in addition to mentioning new ways to connect the dots between the various items that have improved.

Good luck,

Would you explain your question with more details as to what school you are applying to? Also if you can explain what you mean by 'content feels more naked'. In general the school wish to see how you have improved your profile from the last time you applied.
