Profile Evaluation Help?

by overanalyzer » Sat Dec 14, 2013 3:04 pm
Hi! I have been browsing the thread trying to find a case similar to mine, but no luck yet. I would really appreciate your input into what my chances are if I were to proceed with R2 applications or wait it out.

I am a mid-20s Hispanic female, B.S and M.S in Chemical Engineering from non-top universities (both GPAs above 3.6), about 3 years experience in my field, currently at a top company with evidence of increasing responsibilities and leadership opportunities, lots of extracurriculars through school and work as well

I've taken the GMAT twice, jumping from low 500s to 670 which is still too low for my target schools (breakdown: IR = 8, Q = 43, V = 40). I am quite concerned that the quant is lower given my background, but I ran out of time and had to guess the last several questions on the section.

Career Goal/Why an MBA: Supply Chain/Logistics or Strategy/Consulting (still deciding)

Target Schools: Booth, Kellogg, UCLA, Duke, Ross, McCombs, Harvard (maybe) and Wharton (maybe)

I am not sure if it would be best to quickly put together an application for R2 in January or if I should wait it out until next year. I would prefer to start Fall 2014, but open to suggestions if this is not feasible.

Thank you for your help! :)

Hey there!
It's a good question.

The first question I would ask you, is what are the advantages (professional and personal) for you to attend school next year? What are the disadvantages? What would you do at your job if you did not apply this year? And finally, if you were to retake the GMAT do you think you can get higher? If so, how much higher?

Once you answer these questions, I can get back to you with a MUCH better answer :)

Best,
JF
