Profile Evaluation

by jerryjose » Tue Jan 17, 2012 12:56 pm
Hi,

I would greatly appreciate it if you could evaluate my profile & help me choose which schools will be the best fit for me.

GMAT: 650(Q-45,V-34). Am retaking the GMAT soon and hope to get around 700-720.
Work exp: Worked with Goldman Sachs as Financial Analyst for 3 yrs. Gradual progression every year. Haven't lead a team, but managed projects within the team.
Nationality: Indian
Age: 24
Educational Qualification:
10th grade- 83%
12th grade- 80%
Bachelors in Commerce- 68%

I quit my job last February. So that's a career gap of almost an year. And during this gap, I was actively involved with Commodity trading. I dealt with gold & silver contracts for nearly 6 months. Also worked with a Securities trading firm for a while.

I wish to pursue an MBA now. My target schools are:
INSEAD, HEC, IE, IESE, NUS, & LBS.

I understand that my work experience is on the lower side. So are these schools that am looking at way above the reach for me? Should i be looking at some other schools as well?

Regards,
Jerry.

Well, you got a good basis, sir. Working three years at GS certainly isn't going to hurt you ;) (although your gap might, but that can be dealt with). Right now the gaping hole in your profile is your GMAT. If you are aiming for top schools, you are gonna have to at least break the 700 if not better. So I'd say a GMAT retake would be the best thing you can do right now to prepare yourself for your application (plus to find a job or start volunteering lots, or work on an entrepreneurial project... something to start filling that gap)

Thanks Jon!!! :-)
That was of great help. I have already started with my preparations for the retake. One more concern I have is that I would be applying for the 3rd round of most schools. Is that alright or should I wait for the Round 1 of next intake? Am willing to wait if it can improve my chances.
