Business week shows that the average scores of GMAT for UCLA, which is the top ranked part time business program ranges from 630 to 740. As per this some one with a 650 score, such as myself stand a chance.

What do you guys think about 650 (44 Q and 36 V) for part time programs? Almost all the part time programs, even Booth are in range of this score. I am of East Indian origin, been here in the US for 10 years, have a grad degree in CS from a 2 tier school in DC area (GPA of 3.34).I still live in the DC area. By fall 2010, I will have 7 years of progressive experience in IT. If I include Curricular practical training, it will be 8 years. I am making decent money (into six figures, not to brag, just giving one of the reason why PT is probably better for me ) and it does not make sense to me to go into a tier 2 school full time sacrificing 2 years of salary, ending up with a student loan of 80-100K, deal with visa situation, loose family time and a lot of other things. I have a good story to tell about my leadership. I have done almost another full time job ( thanks to my flexible hours at work and ability to work late into the night) in the past 3 years as one of the leaders of a non profit. I am sure that this story is a compelling one and it is very relevant to business schools, (US and non US). Another big advantage I have is that I work for a MNC and our company has more than 50 offices in the US. I can easily get relocated and possibly reimbursement to a certain extent.

I really dont have the energy to take the GMAT again. I scored 700(48 Q 38V) and 710 (49Q 39 V) on 5/19 and 5/22 in GMATPrep and took the GMAT last week only to get 650. I really felt good taking the test. I was able to see the wicked tricks GMAT Q plays on test takers. It really crushes me because I considered doing FT at LBS/INSEAD, if I get past 700. I cajoled myself saying that every thing happens for a reason and that I am not supposed to fore go my salary and family life.

My Question to you guys is Do I have a chance to get into top part time programs with emphasis on Management consulting. I have always been averse to risk and never considered myself some one who is very much interested in finance. Though I would love to learn more about finance, I see myself solving tough problems rather than managing funds. What are such schools that fit my profile? Do I stand any chance for FT programs at INSEAD and LBS?

Any one? I am having night mares on this GMAT score. I could not sleep last night and all that I was dreaming was the stupid Q questions that I probably might have screwed. Slept after midnight and woke up by 4 30 am. I hate this.

Hi,

Your GMATPREP Scores should be the scores you get on your actual test. More than 99% of the test takers we are in contact with get an average of their GMAT Prep Scores (our sample size isn't too large before you view this with skepticism, but still good enough). Hence, we feel you can do much better on your GMAT if you take it again. A lot of people lose that drive/energy to take it, that zeal. You don't need to take it immediately. In our opinion, if you are able to easily get relocated as you say, you should maybe try a GMAT Attempt after that. A change of scenery would do wonders and get that force back.

Your 650 is decent for part time programs. We rank the part time programs at Stern and Chicago Booth very highly. Your score and overall profile is good for these schools. However, if getting into LBS/INSEAD for FT MBA programs is what you dream of, we suggest you move on, prepare hard, take another attempt at the GMAT. This is because we feel you have the material to get into these schools. It would be a shame to let go of your dream because of one bad day of testing.

However, if you really are interested in the part time programs, please go ahead and apply. There's an OK chance of getting in.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Thanks App Review. I will wait to hear from other admission consultants as well and will decide what I should do.
