I want to know what my odds are of getting into an elite school. Here are some things about me, any insight that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
I took my first practice GMAT last week and got a 640. Off the top of my head I think it was 38 verbal, 37 math. I have been studying a great deal since then and think I have a good shot at 700+ when I take the test two weeks from now.(Is this too late to be taking the test? If not, would it hurt me to postpone taking it for an extra week or two to study more?)
Graduated Florida State with a 3.01 GPA. I had a 2.0 in my first 5 semesters and a 3.26 in my final 11 semesters.
Double major, BS in Real Estate and Management
Some positive activities that I involved myself in once I got my act together academically: assisting the visually impaired(primarily volunteering as a test reader and occasional paper writer), guest speaker for the victims advocate program at first year experience classes(got involved after hearing a guest speaker who said they are always looking for help), which led to becoming president of MARC, short for Men Advocating Responsible Conduct, consisting of leaders from fraternities on campus joining together to give a series of lectures on the consequences of each persons actions.
Only student from my high school to ever attend, let alone graduate from a university. It was a school for students with learning disabilities. I have ADHD but I'm very reluctant to mention it because I think people are critical of the disorder, as opposed to something regarded as more severe.
I spent the last 3 years working for the family business. Primarily at their import/export business where I began as a warehouse worker and finished earlier this year as a manager. I took over our private investment firm when the vp of 14 years suddenly resigned. I have done an excellent job both qualitatively and quantitatively at both positions, but I'm concerned that people reviewing my information will think that I was handed my positions because of the family component.
I want to go to school to learn more about business in general and finance/real estate and/or entrepreneurship in particular.
Am I reaching a little too far beyond my credentials in trying to get into an elite program? Dont worry about hurting my feelings, I would really like to know.
Thanks,
Barak
