I scored a 580 on the GMAT Q34 V36, and want to apply by round 2 (Jan 15). Texas A&M, TCU, and Baylor are my target schools. I work in the north texas area and these schools are ideal.

I have 2 years experience working on a trading floor of a regional investment bank, have a small of amount of charity work, and graduated from the Univ of N Texas in Denton with a 3.1 GPA (good amount of extracurricular activites). 25 yr old male looking to get my MBA to improve my academic background and provide opportunities for future endeavors in the financial industry.

I understand retaking the GMAT could boost my score but I don't know how much difference I would see. I want to start Fall 2012 and round 2 is the last round for being considered in financial assistance plus I hoped an early application could help my chances.

Are my schools out of reach? Should I wait another year to study, retest, and apply for next year?

As you already know, you are a bit on the low end for all of these schools. Although given your GMAT it is unlikely you will be offered any scholarships here. Other than that if you have good reason to apply this year, then make your best damn application and apply.

Worst comes to worst, you would do what you would have to do otherwise - retake the GMAT and apply next year.

Thanks for your help. I definitely want to apply this year but realize my entire application will have to be stellar to make up for the low GMAT. Am I really out of reach or will fantastic essays and solid work experience make up for it?

I also was interested in your free consultation and tried looking up your services but everytime I do the website crashes. What all do you offer or do you recommend any other ways to review my applications?

Well then, from what you wrote it doesn't seem like you have a great reason to do it this year, so wait it out, maybe...

As for our crashing website, that's odd. Seems to be working for us... but I'll have it looked into. Anyhow you can get either a profile evaluation, a free edit of an essay or a chat with a consultant, whatever is best for you.
