hotel

Guidebook writer: I have visited hotels throughout the country and have noticed that in those built before 1930 the quality of the original carpentry work is generally superior to that in hotels built afterward. Clearly carpenters working on hotels before 1930 typically worked with more skill, care, and effort than carpenters who have worked on hotels built subsequently.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the guidebook writer’s argument?

A. The quality of original carpentry in hotels is generally far superior to the quality of original carpentry in other structures, such as houses and stores.
B. Hotels built since 1930 can generally accommodate more guests than those built before 1930.
C. The materials available to carpenters working before 1930 were not significantly different in quality from the materials available to carpenters working after 1930.
D. The better the quality of original carpentry in a building, the less likely that building is to fall into disuse and be demolished.
E. The average length of apprenticeship for carpenters has declined significantly since 1930.

OA is D , do let me know your logic and plz dont use POW

This is a type of question that I have encountered before... I can't exactly remember if it was the OG or Kaplan, though... Kindly share the source!

The answer is indeed the one you provided for a simple reason: only the best hotels that were built before 1930 are still standing today. If the materials used had been of poor quality, then the hotels wouldn't have lasted so much.

Let's also note why the other options are no good:

A. the issue here is concerned with hotels and not other types of buildings
B. not relevant to the whole "construction" issue
C. this is actually a strengthening statement: if the materials were not significantly different, then there shouldn't be any major difference in comfort
E. not relevant - totally beside the point

The original question was about the fact that this girl noticed that her vintage clothes were a lot more resistant than her newer clothes... This is why I am VERY curious about the source of this question (although I have a feeling)....

In my opinion D is the most logical one
