Some people believe that schools should be responsible only for teaching academic skills and not for teaching ethical and social values.On the other hand,some might support the view that schools should be responsible for imparting academic skills as well as ethical and social values to students.I shall refute the former opinion and support the later view in the upcoming paragraphs.
The primary reason why schools should impart academic,social and ethical values to students is that school is considered to be a center for all round development of an individual.When a person selects a school for his child,he makes sure that apart from academics,the school also contributes in his all round development.School is a center where a student interacts with other fellow students and learns how to conduct himself.Social and ethical values come into the picture here when a student learns how to behave himself.
The secondary reason is that a student spends approximately 15 years of his life in school.Those 15 years are his learning days,on which his future depends.If social and ethical values are imbibed in them from an early stage ,this ensures that the person is socially sound and knows how to live in a society will fellow human beings.He learns to adjust with others and discards ill-doings.He knows how to make a choice between ethical and unethical acts.
It is said that mother is the first teacher of a child and that school is the second home for him.If school is meant only for academic skills ,then it is better that parents hire private tutors to impart academic skills to their kids as then the tutor will be focusing only on 1-2 students at a time ,why to send their kids to schools where one teacher manages approximately 40-50 students at a time.The answer to this question will be that a student gets to learn a lot more than just academics and that is why a school is preferred.
In sum,schools are the building block in one's life as well as the foundation on which growth of a country relies on.If students are taught how to behave in a society and be respectful of fellow human beings ,it will result in a better place to live in.[/b]
