hard OG work problem

by Redhorsep » Fri Sep 23, 2011 9:55 am
Hi,

I wonder if there's a short cut to this problem, that is, without going through the quadratric equation and factoring to solve for the variables.

Thanks!

Running at their respective constant rates, Machine x takes 2 days longer to produce 2 widgets than Machine Y. At these rates, if the two machines together produce (5/4w) widgets in 3 days, how many days would it take Machine X alone to produce (2w) widgets?
