Results from the 1998 National Demographic and Health Survey confirm that, even when compared with densely populated countries like Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation's fertility rates consistently exceed all of its Southeast Asian neighbors.

(A) like Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation's fertility rates consistently exceed all of
(B) like Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation consistently exhibits fertility rates exceeding all
(C) such as Thailand and Indonesia, the fertility rates exhibited by the Philippine nation are consistently exceeding those of all
(D) such as Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation's fertility rates consistently exceed all those of
(E) such as Thailand and Indonesia, the Philippine nation consistently exhibits fertility rates that exceed those of all

Took me 2 minutes

we need such as and not like A and B out

D is wrong because 'those of' placed after 'all'. We actually need 'those of'before 'all'.

C is out becuase ||ism is not correct. It should be 'rates exhibited by the Philippine nation are exceeding those exhibited by all Southeast Asian neighbors'

E is correct.

For examples GMAT uses "Such as" .

A, B out bcz of like

comparison between nations "Singlar Philippine nation" - subject needs singular verb "exhibits"

Final solution at one place:

Important: The purpose of this post (and all the other posts by me) is to give a complete solution to all GMAT-Prep Verbal questions at one place. Sometimes students have to wade through dozens of posts to get to the final answer. My posts will give one complete and crisp solution required to arrive at the correct answer by eliminating the wrong one. Some of the content in these posts may have been taken from various other sources (discussion forums).

'Like' is not the correct choice in this construction. Also, the GMAT prefers 'such as' to 'like'. This eliminates A and B.

A, C, and D compare 'Thailand and Indonesia' and 'fertility rates' ... wrong comparison.

B compares 'fertility rates' to 'Southeast Asian neighbors (countries) ... wrong comparison.

E: Correct
