Private Tutoring Advise

Hi, I have taken the MGMAT course and have studied their books which I've found as a good resource. But after taking the test for the first time and getting a very low score on the GMAT, I think I need a new strategy and am thinking about private tutoring.
Manhattan Gmat private tutoring is from $175 hr which is out of my budget, but have found someone from veritas for 100 an hour? and someone from craigslist who claims to have been trained at MGMAT, and Princeton for 60.00 hr. The difference of the prices are alot and am not sure which one is good for me.
Does it matter which teacher is from which company? Does anyone have any recommandations for any tutors in West Los Angeles area? Appreciate your help.

I highly recommend personal referrals when going the private tutor route. I believe that the quality of private tutoring depends quite heavily on the quality of the teacher--the best way to make the right choice is to reach out to friends or other people you trust and ask them about their experiences with tutors.

Well, I'm definitely not on your side of the world so maybe that will make my opinion mean something even though I am a private teacher. I worked for a big name company, and now am doing my own thing. The company that I worked for in the past charged 130 euros for me, and now I charge a fair amount less than that. Anyway, the point is that people often confuse price with quality- in economics terms you could say that GMAT tutoring is a Griffen good. What I'd do if I were you is either 1) find a friend who had a good tutor as mentionned above or 2) make sure that the tutor is actually qualified (that is, he or she actually worked for MGMAT in your case). Just because someone doesn't have a big name behind them, doesn't mean that they aren't a good teacher. Experience is also a big factor- they should have at least a year of experience. You should also talk to the tutor for a little bit before you enlist him to make sure that you guys will work well together since you're going to be spending a fair amount of time together.
