Fifty gallons of solution x contains ten gallons of P and 40 gallons of Q. Hunder gallons of solution Y contains sixty gallons of P and forty gallons of Q. Then how much of the solution Y should be added to the 50 gallons of solution X to make a solution that has 30 % of P ?

a) 34/3

b) 38/3

c) 46/3

d) 50 /3

e) 56/3

Please help the best approach to solve this.

1/5...................3/5
..........3/10............
3/10.................1/10

so to get a 30% soln of P ratio of X and Y will be 3/10 : 1/10 or 3:1

now amount of x is 50 gallons..so amount of y is 50/3 gallons
Ans option D
