On the GMAT, a
perfect square is defined as
the square of a positive integer:
1² = 1
2² = 4
3² = 9
4² = 16
And so on.
If x-1 is a perfect square, then x-1 could be equal to any of the values in the list above:
x-1 = 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36...
Adding 1 to each side, we get:
x =
2, 5, 10, 17, 26, 37...
x could be equal to any of the resulting values in red.
