The question is as: 3/8 = 5/4 - [(x/100)5/4]; here x represents the percentage amount we look for.
3/8 = 5/4- [x/80]
Taking x/80 to the left hand side, while moving 3/8 to the right hand side gives you the following:
x/80 =5/4-3/8
x= 70 So 3/8 is 70% less than 5/4.
Another approach:
The question may be reframed as: What percent of 5/4 is the difference between 5/4 and 3/8?
As such, the difference between 5/4 and 3/8 is 7/8[ 5/4-3/8]
Then answer the question: 7/8 is what percent of 5/4?
(7/8)/(5/4) =7/10 = 70%
