Each week a certain salesman is paid a fi xed amount
equal to $300, plus a commission equal to 5 percent
of the amount of his sales that week over $1,000.
What is the total amount the salesman was paid last
week?
(1) The total amount the salesman was paid last
week is equal to 10 percent of the amount of his
sales last week.
(2) The salesman's sales last week totaled $5,000.

I can see that Smt 2 is sufficient.

How in the world is Smt 1 sufficient?!?!
Smt1 -- > payment = .10(sales). We do not know his sales? So how is this sufficient?

St 1 : 300 + 0.05 * X = 0.1 X
300 = 0.95 X
Solve for X . and then find the commission

Shouldn't it be 300+.05(x-1000)=.1x Since his commission is based on total sales over $1k? Obviously you don't have to get the solution, just need to know it's suff.
