Founded in 1983, the magazine increased its circulation more than double since then, and its advertising.

(A) increased its circulation more than double since then,
(B) has since increased its circulation more than double,
(C) has since more than doubled its circulation
(D) since then more than doubled its circulation
(E) more than doubled its circulation since then

I eliminated A,B,E and kept C and D because its advertising should be preceded by its circulation. I thought D would be correct. But the answer key says C. I'm very confused with C. could someone explain.

Since signals present perfect tense because it implies the trend continues. D is past tense with "doubled." Doubled is used as a verb here

but the answer doesn't make proper sense. If the answer choice was " has since then more than doubled its circulation" it would have been better

you don't need "then." since is fine. the than in C is with "more than" i think u are confusing since alone with "since than" thats not the case here.

[Modifier], the magazine has [modifier] more than doubled its circulation, and its advertising. (can u make sure the comma is also underlined?)

Since = from 1983 until now
Since then = from 1983 until now (this is use to more specifcally address a date or an event).
Since more than = Because something is more than something something else happened: Since more than 10 people attended the party, I had to make more food. (Here you don't need present perfect, since here is used as because).
