by bajwa2307 » Mon Jan 31, 2011 8:29 am
A screwdriver and a hammer currently have the same price. If the price of a screwdriver rises by 5% and the price of a hammer goes up by 3%. How much more will it cost to buy 3 screwdrivers and 3 hammers?

a. 3%
b. 4%
c. 5%
d. 8%
e. 24%

the correct anwer is b

This is rather easy question, however the method i am trying is not giving me the correct answer. I get a value between 4-5%.

price of sd = 100
price of h = 100

raises:

sd = 103
h = 105

original cost: 600
new: 309 + 315

24/600 * 100 = 24/6 = 4
