Despite the influx of international aid to a particularly war-torn region of East Africa during the waning months of 2006, in early 2007, many indigenous people unable to find food left their home to travel west where other tribal groups historically experienced less difficulties producing food, water, and land.

A) their home to travel west where other tribal groups historically experienced less difficulties
B) home to travel west where other tribal groups historically experienced fewer difficulties
C) their home to travel west where other tribal groups historically experienced fewer difficulties
D) home to travel west in search of other tribal groups who historically had experienced fewer difficulties
E) home to travel west where other tribal groups historically had experienced fewer difficulties

How does one "produce land?" :(

Maybe they mean "procuring."

Hi Jim,

Can u please suggest, the use of "THEIR HOME" in some choices...is "THEIR" causing redundancy here??? I think is very common in daily usage...is this wrong to use in formal writing??? Please suggest..

You know, I was actually thinking about that expression quite a bit before, and just didn't say anything; I don't want to be the guy who just shows up and complains about sentences from other sources, because I know how hard it is to come up with practice GMAT questions.

The normal phrases, to my mind, are "left home" or "left their homes" -- "left their home" is not wrong but clearly forces us to either imagine that they all shared one home or that we are referring to their region as "home."

IMO A

I think 'less difficulties' is right.
Please provide OA and OE.

Thanks for your post Jim, actually the OE says that THEIR is redundant...but the problem is its too subtle to find out..so far i practiced a lot and i'm comfortable in picking out redundant expressions but isn't this is so subtle to appear in GMAT.
