Profile Evaluation Request

Hi,

Just wanted to get some valuable insight into my profile. I took the GMAT a few months ago and got a 680 (44Q, 39V). I graduated with a 3.91 GPA with a B.S. in Managerial Economics. By the time I begin applying for school, I'd have 3 years of work experience in economic and financial consulting in issues of commercial litigation.

I plan to apply to schools this year, but am debating on whether or not I should use these next few months to study and retake the GMAT or if I should spend time strengthening other parts of my application.

I want to try for Columbia, NYU, and UCLA. Any insights would be helpful!

Hi Jason,

Thanks for posting. Overall my feeling is you have a 'good' profile, based on the limited amount of info shared here.... but not necessarily outstanding and super memorable (so far), which can be tough because there are SO many decent/'good' candidates out there applying to top schools... to feel more confident about your chances, it would be better if you had something to help you stand out more and/or strengthened your positioning-- some memorable/ impactful leadership experience (whether in or outside of work); examples of how you've made a difference or went above and beyond; unique life experiences and/or passions.... sometimes the difference can be made in your essays, and how you share what makes you unique and your personal character. A stronger GMAT would help though... and if you have the time, it's fairly common to take it more than once, and schools take the higher score. So you could say give it 3-4 weeks of prep time and re-take; you should already know your strengths & weaknesses and what to focus on. Generally sooner rather than later is better for a re-take especially if your score was already fairly respectable. Then focus on those essays. Good luck and keep us posted!
