Usage of "where" - doubt

by GaneshMalkar » Wed Mar 06, 2013 8:06 pm
Why the usage of where in the following sentence is wrong?

The Company where I work has gone bankrupt.

As where refers to specific location in the GMAT. In the above sentence where is referring to the Company.
If you cant explain it simply you dont understand it well enough!!!

Ganesh,

As you pointed out, 'where' on the GMAT is used only for places or locations - your company is not a location. i.e. you can work 'with' a company, not 'at' a company.

The area where my office is located... <correct>
The company in which I work... <correct>

Hope you got it.
