Supernovas destroy their immediate environments in vast explosions, but by synthesizing heavy chemical elements, they provide the universe with the possibility-based life as we know it.

I need to know the antecedent in this sentence and whether the pronoun is apt.

Whatever the answer is-If so, why so? :)

The antecedent is "supernovas", since the antecedent is plural, "their" is appropriate here.

Their is a possessive pronoun. You may want to invest in basic grammar book.

in this case the antecedent is Supernovas and the pronoun referring to it is THEY.

this is pulled from MGMAT SC guide

I wanted to know why is the sentence correct? When THEY ( the pronoun ) could refer to environments and explosions .
