I pick D

to compare nouns in the sentence and E requires the structure of " Just as ...., so ...."

I know the construction is awkward but there is not a better choice than this......

Also, this is a 1000 SC question which experts claim to be non authentic. So, i wont recommend you to worry about the question much.

the original poster meant to underline "real similar to" so the Original should look like:
_____ a Hollywood..... well.

Choice D is the best option to compare the nouns(movie set and affluence)

We are comparing a "a country's affluence" with a "Hollywood movie set"... which are things & not actions... so it shud be "like" and not "as".. use "as" when you wanna compare actions...

"As" is a conjunction here and would create the expectation of parallelism (and as somebody else said, a comparison of verbs), which the rest of the sentence does not provide.
