required of OR required for

by xcusemeplz2009 » Wed Sep 02, 2009 9:30 pm
Because of the enormous research and
development expenditures required to survive in
the electronics industry, an industry marked by
rapid innovation and volatile demand, such firms
tend to be very large.

(A) to survive
(B) of firms to survive
(C) for surviving
(D) for survival
(E) for firms' survival
It does not matter how many times you get knocked down , but how many times you get up

IMO - B,

it is the only option that maintains ||ism.

IMO -b
here in this, the part of sentence miss the word firm.
In the original sentence we don't know of whose survival we are talking about.

so the only option is b and d
consider the part 'such firms tends to be ..'

and so it must be firms to survive ..

You need "firms" in the first part of the sentence.

Only B does that.
