Scientists studying the issue found that patients with slower heart rates tend to have far higher incidences of major depression, as compared to patients with normal or fast heart rates. The scientists conclude that the heart protects against both physical breakdown and depression.
The scientists' conclusion relies on which of the following assumptions?
A - High heartbeat protects against depression better than normal heartbeat.
B - Depression has effects on the body similar to those of physical breakdown.
C - Patients who have high heartbeats cannot develop depression.
D - Depression does not cause heart rates to decrease.
E - Psychiatric treatment of depression is less effective than treating physical illnesses.
I understand the OA is D, but can anyone let me know why B is wrong?
Premise - Patients with Low heart rate tend to have more depression than fast heart rate
Conclusion - Heart protects against Breakdown and depression
In above premise and Conclusion, there is no linkage between heart, breakdown and depression... So this should have been assumed.
Any hint or help would be appreciated....
