Whom vs Who

by itairikovitch » Tue Sep 18, 2012 9:22 am
Biomedical engineers at the sporting equipment convention, one who is wheelchair-bound, will demonstrate equipment that allows physically challenged athletes to compete effectively.

a)one who
b)one of them who
c)and one of them who
d)one of whom
e)one of which
OA = d
Based on the "dirty trick" I asked "Who is in the wheel chair?" The answer is "He is..." Therfore the 'W' word used should be Who (and not whom).
Why is this rule not applied here?

Perhaps you are not likely to be tested on GMAT, but just in case, this is a handy rule to remember:

Pronouns take the "object" form, when they appear as part of prepositional phrase.

..one of whom.. is correct because "of whom" is a prepositional phrase (well, since it is a phrase and starts with a preposition "of"). "whom" is the object form, while "who" is the subject form.
