SC: Need help for pronoun

by bowleyjoo » Tue Aug 12, 2008 5:28 am
With the exception of Frank and I, everyone in the class finished the assignment before the bell rang.
(A) Frank and I, everyone in the class finished
(B) Frank and me, everyone in the class finished
(C) Frank and me, everyone in the class had finished
(D) Frank and I, everyone in the class had finished
(E) Frank and me everyone in the class finished

Can anyone explain the difference between I and me in this question?

Definitely Frank and I, if thats the question.

And I would go with Had finished, because they finished before the bell rang, so an anterior action.

IMO: D

IMO B .. here I should be used in objective form.. hence 'me'

also since before is clearly mentioned, we need not use had.. but certainly usage of past perfect is not incorrect either..

Could someone please tell which one is correct on GMAT?

You don't need "had" since the word "before" explicitly clarifies that for us. I was almost tricked to consider the choice with "had" as well before I realized the importance of "before".

I would go with B since I beleive "everyone" is the subject and Frank and me are the objects. But I'm not 100% sure abt it.

Its definitely Frank and I,

remember here Frank and I is the subject

when "I" is used in subject it stays as "I",

when "I" is the object it changes to "me"

Its D,

it should be past perfect for sure,

you are taking about past past action which should be expressed in past perfect.
