Sentence correction guide doubt

by deepak_free » Tue Jun 01, 2010 9:09 am
The Manhattan Sentence correction guide says

"Does everyone have their book?" is wrong -----> I agree

Then it says

"Does everyone have his or her book? is correct -------> I am sorry but I am not able to understand.

I know that everyone is singular the Sentence correction guide also says so.
Then why we are not saying

"Does everyone has his or her book?

Can anybody please help?

This is a simple structure.

Does he have a car? Correct.
Does he work? Correct.
Does he do the work? Correct.

Here, the structure is as follows:

Does + he/she/it/third person singular+ verb in the base form + Object +?

I think, you got it.
