Which of the following most logically completes the passage below?

Heavy rains during Centralia's corn planting season prevented some farmers there from planting corn. It is now the planting season for soybeans, another of Centralia's principal crops, and those fields originally intended for corn are dry enough for planting. Nonetheless, even though soybean prices are unusually high at present, the farmers will leave most of these fields empty rather than plant them with soybeans, since "—"—"—"—"—"—.

A. the extensive rains have led to an increase in the price of corn
B. some Centralian farmers anticipate serious financial losses due to the extremely wet spring planting season
C. chemicals that were used to prepare the fields for corn planting would stunt the growth of soybeans
D. the majority of Centralia's corn farmers were able to plant corn as they had intended, despite the wet planting season
E. many Centralian farmers grow both corn and soybeans

OA C
what's wrong with B?
The anticipated financial losses led farmers to leave the fields empty. B supports the argument.

There are a few problems with B. First, we don't know how many "some" is; it could be anything from 1 to all of the farmers. Without knowing that, it's hard to consider it as a good reason for not replanting the field with soybeans. More to the point, though, why would anticipated financial losses keep farmers from planting a potentially profitable crop? That might give them a chance to recoup some of their losses. B seems like an outcome of the situation, not a reason for their actions. C, on the other hand, presents a solid justification for not planting the soybeans: they wouldn't grow well anyway.

those fields originally intended for corn are dry enough for planting.

Now season for soybean.

even though soybean prices are unusually high at present, the farmers will leave most of these fields empty rather than plant them with soybeans, since _____

Here, we have to give reason why soybean is not planted and farmers will leave most of these fields empty.

C is the best option.

C: chemicals that were used to prepare the fields for corn planting would stunt the growth of soybeans
