(A) before Australia was Australia, it was the antipodes

(B) before there was Australia, it was the antipodes ..........Awkward

(C) it was the antipodes that was Australia...........Awkward

(D) Australia was what was the antipodes

(E) Australia was what had been known as the antipodes
