Definitely not D it changes the meaning and makes a cause and effect issue. C is redundant In that she is herself is unnecessary verbage.E is worded poorly(I know not agood reason) and doesnt really make sense. Im going with A its a descriptive phrase describing Mrs. Newland. This one is tough, I think. Any thoughts

but it should be modify,
option (b) should be ''herself being the''

''the'' is imp here.

I would go for A.

'Herself' tends to keep the sentence terse and concise.
