Hi Everyone,
This is my first post in BTG and I am excited to join the group!
In this question:
The board follows policies that are unreasonably strict and so inflexible that they refuse to allow leaves of absences even when justifiable.
(A) they refuse to allow leaves of absences even when
(B) allowing leaves of absences are refused even when
(C) it refuses to allow leaves of absences to be taken even when they are (CORRECT ANSWER)
(D) leaves of absences are refused to be allowed to be taken even when
(E) leaves of absences are refused even when it is
C is given as the correct answer, but I chose E.
My Reasoning:
I felt refuse and allow are opposites and therefore redundant in the same sentence.
Isnt 'The board refused the leaves..' enough to express the meaning of 'The board refused to allow the leaves...'.
Can you please clarify the redundancy I am seeing.
Thanks , SB
