big words ....argh! arts!!!!! HELP!!!

Theater Critic: The play La Finestrina, now at Central Theater, was written in Italy in the eighteenth century.
The director claims that this production is as similar to the original production as is possible in a modern
theater. Although the actor who plays Harlequin the clown gives a performance very reminiscent of the
twentieth-century American comedian Groucho Marx, Marx's comic style was very much within the comic
acting tradition that had begun in sixteenth-century Italy.

The considerations given best serve as part of an
argument that
(A) modern audiences would fi nd it hard to tolerate
certain characteristics of a historically accurate
performance of an eighteenth-century play

(B) Groucho Marx once performed the part of the
character Harlequin in La Finestrina

(C) in the United States the training of actors in the
twentieth century is based on principles that do
not differ radically from those that underlay the
training of actors in eighteenth-century Italy

(D) the performance of the actor who plays
Harlequin in La Finestrina does not serve as
evidence against the director's claim

(E) the director of La Finestrina must have advised
the actor who plays Harlequin to model his
performance on comic performances of
Groucho Marx

I dint understand a word :(

This is a LSAT level Question.

C should be the right answer.

Let us try to understand what the question stem really asks for??

The considerations given best serve as part of an argument that ....this could be paraphrased as "Which of the following considerations tries to strengthen the claims made by theatre critic"

Now coming to the argument, Theatre Critic comments that " the play La Finestrina ia actually written in 18th century, and as per Director claims, the play resembes that of 16 century. How can it be possible ??Yeah it is possible when the actor who played role of comedian in the play resembled of the artist whose actions is that of actors in 16 century.

But the theatre critic says the comedian (Harlequin ) resembled only a 20 century actor named Groucho Marx and not a 16 century actor.

So now how can we resolve this paradox??Yeah C rightly says that current 20 century actors are "trained" on thge principles on which the actors of 16 century actors are trained.

So C resolves this paradox & strengthens the Critics Comments..

I would stake for D

"Although" in the last line should attempt to weaken the Director's claim.

But the last line compares the performance of actor(who plays Harlequin) with Marx's who began to act similar that started in 16th century.

But that does not mean that the acting in 16th century was different that in the 18th century(what we require to weaken the director's claim) Hence it fails to weaken the Directors claim.

D- describes the same as above.

Guys, lately I saw testluv's reply to this query already posted.

https://www.beatthegmat.com/og12-the-pla ... 44568.html.

I understood the query very clearly. But was very hasty and selected C and started to justify it.

Lesson learnt: Dont be hasty or tempted while answering.

I am working on this "principle" for long time..But my bad habit of anxiety plays spoilsport every time..

Any technique to control anxiety while seeing a tough query??

Plz help me out!!

Hey bro...never underestimate yourself....you are doing a fabulous community service here by posting some excellent questions

Everyone has a bit of anxiety. No one is perfect. As I said earlier -compared to these people like - Komal, Osirus, DanaJ,Logitech, Vineet,..others and our tutors, we are too behind in studying GMAT and knowing the concepts properly.

We need to give more time to study and stay calm while studying, not allow our nerves to get on us.

Read this blog : https://hubpages.com/hub/Stress-free-exams
(don't need to buy books though)

Others things that you can try are simple like -try not to be angry(sometimes its OK for necessary cause)
try to forgive others even in case they don't apologize you..etc...bla...bla ...bla
I know , you already knew the above stuff well! ;)
