Statement 1 tells us that there are total 72 chairs. question stem tells us that number of rows is 1 less than the numbe of chairs in that row.

hence 72 chairs = 9 chairs * 8 Rows.. hence sufficient.

statement 2. if that 1 chair wasnt removed ..there would have been 18 cirs inlast 2 rows.. thus each row will have 18/2 chairs = 9 chairs..

hence D.
