IMO- A

a) before Greece was Greece, it was a collection of small city-states (correct)
b) before there was Greece, it was a collection of small city-states ( it doesnt have a clear referent)
c) before Greece, it was a collection of small city-states ( same as B)
d) it was a collection of small city-states that was Greece (same as B)
e) Greece became a collection of small city states (changes meaning)
