LOR Question

by awilhelm » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:11 am
Hello!

I've spent the past two years starting a business with my father, and he has been my only supervisor. Would you advise against having my father write a LOR, given his bias toward me? If so, what can I do, instead?

Thanks for any suggestions!

I would definitely recommend against your father (or any other family member sharing your last name) writing a letter of recommendation. It will completely lack credibility and could put your judgement in doubt.

You can ask clients, professionals (like accountants, lawyers, etc.), major vendors or investors, or people outside your firm with whom you have worked closely.

Best,
Linda
