Hello vjesus12.

Let's make the conversion:

1 foot = 12 inches.

Now
- If Jenny was 5 feet tall, then she was 5*12 = 60 inches tall.
- This year she is 5 feet 6 inches, then 5*12+6 = 66 inches tall.

Now, let's see what percent x is taller Jenny:

60 inches ---------- 100%
66 inches ---------- x %

Then $$x=\frac{66\cdot100}{60}=\frac{6600}{60}=110\ \%.$$ This tells us that now she is 10% taller.

Therefore, the percent increase was equal to 10%. Thus, the correct answer is the option B.

I hope it helps you.

Regards.

(1 foot = 12 inches)

(A) 5%
(B) 10%
(C) 15%
(D) 20%
(E) 40%
Old height: 5 feet = 60 inches
New height: 5 feet 6 inches = 66 inches

Percent increase = (100)(new - old)/old
= (100)(66 - 60)/60
= (100)(6)/60
= 600/60
= 10%

Answer: B

Height last year = 5*12 = 60 inches
Increase this year 6 inches

Required % = 6/60 * 100 = 10%

Hence the correct answer is B.

Last year Jenny was 5 x 12 = 60 inches tall, and this year she's 60 + 6 = 66 inches tall. So the percent increase is:

(66 - 60)/60 x 100

6/60 x 100 = 1/10 x 100 = 10%

Answer: B
