Backup: Warwick, Imperial (Not sure if these backup as yet)

MBA Expectations:

- Preferably a 12 months course in UK (18 months in case of MBS) starting Fall 2010
- Plan to move up the consulting ‘value-chain’ i.e. into management consulting (preferably strategy)

Finally a few questions –
1. Could you’ll please comment on my college choices i.e. are they too high, too low or should I consider some others and what is the possibility of getting into them with my profile?
2. How realistic are my chances at Oxford or Cambridge?
3. My academics are on the low side so I hope the GMAT should be able to cover that?
4. Anything else I need to stress on in the application or should I leave out anything?
5. Any weak links or red flags you can identify in the profile?

Thanks for your time.. Cheers !!

Dear daylebo5,

1. Could you’ll please comment on my college choices i.e. are they too high, too low or should I consider some others and what is the possibility of getting into them with my profile?
2. How realistic are my chances at Oxford or Cambridge?

I think you have the UK programs on your list in appropriate buckets based on the information you posted. The decision will ultimately be decided by the strength of your overall application, so your essays, recommendations and interviews are critical to the outcome. I would also encourage you to visit these schools if you have not already to gather some firsthand knowledge of the programs.

3. My academics are on the low side so I hope the GMAT should be able to cover that?
The GMAT will mitigate your academic performance to some degree. I think your GPA is pretty average or a little below for most of your schools, but not low enough to be a large weakness for you.

4. Anything else I need to stress on in the application or should I leave out anything?
5. Any weak links or red flags you can identify in the profile?

There is nothing from what you posted that I think needs to be left out. It will be very important for you to present a strong rationale for why business school and why now. Likewise, you need to present a compelling case for admission over the large number of other applicants with similar profiles. You are light on extracurricular activities, but there is not much time to rectify that at this point. Use your leadership and international experiences from your work to your advantage.

Good luck,
Lisa
