Iguanas

Iguanas have been an important food source in Latin America since prehistoric times, and it is still prized as a game animal by the campcsinos, who typically cook the meat in a heavily spiced stew.
(A) it is still prized as a game animal
(B) it is still prized as game animals
(C) they are still prized as game animals
(D) they are still prized as being a game animal
(E) being still prized as a game animal

I dont get the usage of AS here......Can anyone please explain it?

Iguanas - plural , should go with they are. eliminate A,B,E
as being is awkward in D. C remains.
there is no split in option answers concerned with usage of "as" (If the options differ with usage of as they it is important to think what is best - as or like ), so don't bother - thinking on it wastes time, instead focus on splits.

Onell, this out-of-the-box for this one. Sometimes on the GMAT, you might find no logical reason why an answer choice is correct, but if you can eliminate the remaining answer choices for obvious mistakes- go on with the leftover!

To be more exact- in the question you posted it is obvious that A and B are out because of S-V disagreement.

E is awkward and introduces S-V disagreement as well.

Now that you have narrowed down to 2 choices- read C and D again. Which one would you choose? D features the almost-always-redundant-and-awkward 'being'.

Bottom line: in some cases, elimination is the king!

"as" is used as the comparison marker in this case.

"they are still prized as game animals"

Here we have the subject: they, parallel marker: as, and object: game animals.

"I still think of you as the brightest student..."

subject: you and object: brightest student.

"as" can be used as a preposition (I just did it right there) to denote "in the role of". I like the movie Star Wars, especially since it has Harrison Ford as Han Solo or perhaps closer to the sentence posted Even though we aren't dating anymore, I still think of you as a friend. So, some people still value the iguana in the role of a game animal. Not everybody does.
