Hi vaivish,

IMO d
At first you would notice that "describe" is correct as it refers "Recent essays"
This eliminates ABC.
From option DE option D sounds better.Hope this helps

Reasoning for "D"
1) between describe and describes, we need plural verb to match with plural subject "essays"
2) The sentence need subjunctive "If" construction. Which is "if I were ..."
