A study on couples' retirement transitions found that women who took new jobs after retiring from their primary careers reported high marital satisfaction, more so than those who retired completely.

A. more so than those who retired
B. which was more than if they had retired
C. more than when retiring
D. more than if they were to retire
E. which was more so than those retiring

using they = incorrect since they refers to exact same person(as per Manhattan)...so B,D out.....C implicity want to refer to same person....so C = wrong...

I am not sure which one to prefer A or E...confused between A and E....

I am posting for the first time and also am new to GMAT, so pardon me if i make a mistake.

I think C is the right answer. We are talking about Couple's Retirement transitions. Here " more than when retiring " correctly refers and modifies "marital satisfaction"

A is wrong because it compares "couples' retirement transitions " with other couples whereas the sentence suggest that "marital satisfaction" is changed for the same couple when they switch job.

The OA seems to be wrong. It has to be A. What is the source of question ?

No you're right. I don't know why I misread it. Maybe that's the reason for the bad scores! =P

Yea - you're right, it is A. I'm really sorry about that - it was unintentional and is regrettable.
